De Grey Royal Arch Chapter No. 81
The De Grey Royal Arch Chapter was consecrated on 27 April 1985 in Port Hedland. It was a memorable occasion with M Em Comp Dr. Charles Boyle GZ and a team of forty Grand Chapter Officers together with their wives travelling, in two coaches, to Port Hedland for the consecration and celebrations. The Chapter flourished but in later years numbers dwindled due to many members retiring and moving away from Port Hedland. Funnily enough, many of those members found themselves in Mandurah and surrounds and the first meeting in Furnissdale was held in September 2011. The Chapter continued to meet in Port Hedland and Karratha with several expat members regularly travelling to the Pilbara to keep the Chapter alive. In September 2013 six Companions from Peel Royal Arch Chapter joined DeGrey as Associate members. Meetings in the Pilbara continued until February 2014 when a combined meeting was held with Peel Chapter in Furnissdale. By this time, it was evident that it was not feasible to continue to meet in Port Hedland and the Chapter officially relocated to Mandurah when its first installation, away from Port Hedland, was held in Furnissdale on 28 June 2014.
The De Grey Royal Arch Chapter provides the avenue for further Masonic education and experience for members of The Murray Lodge, Mandurah Lodge, The Yarloop Lodge and the Peel Districts Day Lodge. With the closure of Rockingham Royal Arch Chapter, Peel Royal Arch Chapter now also provides this opportunity to members of Rockingham/Kwinana Lodge.
The De Grey Royal Arch Chapter is Mandurah’s “day-Chapter” that welcomes visitors from our District and our State, as well as interstate and international visitors.
